How to Reduce the Fear of exams (4/5)

Physical health is of utmost importance to help fight anxiety. Only a healthy body can
carry a healthy mind. The following are practical ways that you can help keep a positive mindset
which is free from worry and anxiety, especially prior to taking an exam.

A healthy and balanced lifestyle is key to avoiding anxiety. It is important to never skip a
meal, especially breakfast. Having proper meals will help you remain focused on your studies.
Most commonly, individuals who suffer from anxiety may have trouble eating and therefore, skip
meals. This is a huge mistake, because hunger can make your anxiety increase. It will also
deplete your brain of important nutrients and you will not be able to concentrate very well. Have
three balanced meals daily to keep your strength and energy level.

  • Ensure your meals are nutritious. This includes whole grain products, fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins, as they will provide you with a sustained release of energy that will help you to focus through your study session.
  • Avoid consuming sweet foods and drinks. These bad for your health and the rapid increase of sugar intake will make you jittery, which may also increase your anxiety. After the initial sugar rush, your brain and body will become tired very quickly.
  • Prior to your test day, get plenty of sleep. The lack of sleep can also cause anxiety. Each student should have a full 8 hours of sleep every night. In this way, you can ensure that your brain has been properly rested and you can start studying with a fresh mind.
  • Exercise and stretch your muscles. Anxiety can make your muscles to tense up, especially those in the upper back and neck area. This will cause pain and discomfort, which will limit your ability to focus.

In conclusion, physical health has a great impact on reducing anxiety. A healthy and
balanced diet, proper sleep and daily exercise are all important factors that will help eliminate
anxiety. The anxiety that comes from test taking can take a toll on a student's mind and body.
Therefore, all efforts should be taken to ensure that a healthy lifestyle is maintained in order to
achieve successful results and avoid anxiety.
