Goal setting for Retired People

Welcome back to Goal Setting. Throughout this week, we have been discussing the topic of goal
setting. In the previous blogs, we discussed goal setting for children and for working adults. Today we
will be discussing goal setting for Retired Individuals.

Once individuals become retired they virtually become their own bosses. Life becomes so much
more enjoyable, as they can decide what to do with their “free” time. Those who actively engage in
social activities or engagements which are pleasurable for them are said to live longer. Some individuals may enjoy gardening plants or flowers and being in nature. Other individuals may enjoy visiting other people like themselves or traveling to places they may have never seen before. It is important for retired people to set goals that are reachable and which will bring a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction to them. As in the case of any age group, each person will have a different kind of goal.

Maybe your goal might be to write a book about your experiences in life and the lessons that you have learned that you wish to share with others. Certain individuals, they could possibly go out of their homes and visit younger people and share their life experiences and act as a mentor to them. Not everyone is blessed to have grandparents to guide them or visit them.

Career Counselling for senior citizens, and retired people have so much wisdom and understanding of the world, which they can share with youth and the younger generation. Moreover, younger audiences may be more willing to listen to these retired individuals than they are to their own parents. Retired individuals should not just sit in the home and remain idle. If they do this, they will tend to have a shorter memory and tend to fall sick much faster than if they were active and went out regularly.

Another possible goal for retired people is to live a healthy lifestyle. As the human body ages,
one tends to be susceptible to many forms of illness. To prevent such illnesses, daily exercise, proper
control of food intake, and regular sleep are necessary. Once a person contracts an illness, such as
diabetes, they have to monitor and regulate their food intake so that their blood sugar stays balanced.
Striving to live a healthy life is in itself a goal that we all can strive towards.
